Description:
Founded in 1949, Ansonia Records has been a longtime supporter of the Latin music scene and has recently resumed its activities, releasing a number of recordings from the past and showing us that it is still going strong with the physical release of a new Meridian Brothers album in 2022. Among the Ansonia catalog, this album by Hilberto Sextet is one of the rarest and most popular. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, bandleader, pianist, and arranger Hilberto Cruz moved to New York in the 1960s, where he formed his own orchestra with a vibraphone and piano lead, following the lead of Joe Cuba's popular sextet. This album is the Hilbert Sextet's 1971 album. The soulful chorus work of "You Better Keep Up With The Times," the boogaloo "Do You Want To Be Free," with its harmonica break, and the killer death carga "Echa Pa' Aca," with its cool vibe contrasted with the hot, fiery playing, are just some of the highlights. Echa Pa' Aca," a killer descarga with a cool vibe that contrasts perfectly with the hot, fiery performance. With a softly smiling Hilbert at the center and illustrations of musical instruments sprinkled throughout, the "This is a Latin record" worldview also scores 100 points. The original is sold at a high price, making this a coveted item for Latin collectors!
